Hi friends!🙂This comes a tiny bit late but here's a fragment from our performance of Beethoven's Piano Trio No.3 this past August in Godella, Spain. It's such a pleasure to play with such wonderful musicians as @laupsroc and @irenecerveraest. We performed as the @pangea_trio, which is our chamber ensemble project that we started back in 2021, and with which we are very excited. With lots of excitement I’d like to share the first excerpt of the music I’ve been writing for a documentary in Spain. I’d like to thank @xavimoratoviolin for his great work recording the strings, and for contributing to the music of the documentary with this beautiful melody of his own, which he came up with in one of our long recording sessions.

Con mucha ilusión comparto un fragmento cortito de la música que he estado escribiendo para un documental en España. Me gustaría agradecer a Xavi García Morató por su gran trabajo grabando las cuerdas, y por contribuir a la música del documental con esta preciosa melodía de su propia creación, que se le ocurrió en una de nuestras largas sesiones de grabación.

Very excited to share that my Prelude No.5 was performed last Friday in Vienna, at the gorgeous Palais Pálffy, by the Japanese pianist Masumi Hio, at a concert organized by the incredible Austrian mezzosoprano Angelika Kirchschlager. The prelude was played twice, at the beginning and at the end of the concert. I’d like to thank Ms. Kirchschlager for programming one of my compositions at this concert, which I would have loved to watch in person.

Con ilusión comparto que este pasado viernes, el pianista japonés Masumi Hio tocó mi Preludio No.5 en el precioso Palais Pálffy en Viena, en un concierto organizado por la increíble mezzosoprano austríaca Angelika Kirchschlager. El preludio se tocó dos veces, en la apertura y clausura del concierto. Me gustaría desde aquí agradecer a Ms. Kirchschlager por programar una de mis composiciones en este concierto, en el cual me habría encantado estar en persona.

I couldn’t be more excited to share that this year I will be the composer-in-residence of the Accord Symphony Orchestra, in Washington D.C. The orchestra is conducted by the amazing @juangallastegui_conductor, and this orchestra is the flagship ensemble of @dcstrings_. Throughout 2022-2023 I will be writing for them some pieces, as well as orchestrating some of my own past works for them. I will also play with them as a solo pianist later on the year. I’m very excited to start working with them!

Estoy muy ilusionado de anunciar que este próximo año seré el compositor residente de la Accord Symphony Orchestra en Washington D.C. La orquesta está dirigida por el fantástico Juan Gallastegui, y forma parte de la @dcstrings_. A lo largo de 2022-2023 escribiré piezas para ellos, y también orquestaré alguna de mis anteriores obras. Además, más adelante en este próximo año tocaré con ellos como solista. ¡Tengo muchas ganas de comenzar a trabajar con ellos!

It was a privilege to play my own compositions this past Friday at the Library of the Altenburg Abbey, in Vienna, Austria. It's one of the most beautiful and gorgeous halls I've ever played at, and I got to play two of my preludes. These snippets are of my Prelude No.4. The performance was part of the AMA Festival, and of the CME (@cmemusic) Festival in Austria. The link to the full video is on the bio.

Fue un privilegio poder tocar mis propias composiciones este pasado viernes en la biblioteca de la Abadía de Altenburg, en Viena, Austria. Esta es sin duda una de las salas más bonitas donde he tocado, y en ella pude interpretar dos de mis preludios. Estos fragmentos son de mi Preludio No.4. This was my last full student recital at Mannes, which has an added sentimental value for me since I have been here for 8 years, since 2014. I’m very excited to share that two days ago, on Wednesday night, my Viola Sonata as well as my performances of the pieces of my CD, were broadcasted in WQXR at the Young Artists Showcase, hosted by former New York Times critic, Robert Sherman. He dedicated the entire program to my compositions and my performances, and I’m very thankful to him for that. For anyone interested, the link to the broadcast is in the bio.

Amigos, con mucha ilusión comparto que hace dos días, el miércoles por la noche, retransmitieron en la emisora de radio norteamericana WQXR, en el programa Young Artists Showcase, mi Sonata para Viola así como mis interpretaciones de las piezas de mi CD. Just uploaded the 1st movement of the Spanish Sona

Just uploaded the 1st movement of the Spanish Sonata by Óscar Esplá. I'm in love with this piece. The two short snippets I'm sharing are two of my favorite spots. The first one is of the opening, the second one of the recap. In the first one, the main theme is presented in a religious setting. In the second video, the same "religious" theme comes back again but this time a typical Spanish guitar accompaniment is playing under it. Esplá is mixing the secular with the religious, something very characteristic of the composer. Things like this happen all over the sonata and make it a masterpiece. It's full of juicy details that make it a delight to play for performers. The link to the full video is in the bio.

Acabo de subir el primer movimiento de la Sonata Española de Óscar Esplá. Esta pieza me fascina. Los dos trocitos que comparto son dos de mis trozos favoritos de la sonata. El primero es del comienzo, el segundo de la reexposición. En el primer vídeo, el tema principal se presenta en un contexto religioso. En el segundo vídeo, ese mismo tema vuelve de nuevo pero esta vez está acompañado por un acompañamiento que recuerda al propio de una guitarra española. Esplá está mezclando lo religioso con lo secular, algo muy característico del compositor. Son detalles como estos los que hacen de la sonata una obra maestra. Just uploaded this performance from a while ago of the 3rd movement of Esplá's Spanish Sonata which he writes in homage to Chopin. The video is from the Serenates Festival. The piece is wonderful, full of references to Chopin mixed with folkloric Spanish elements. A gem of a piece.❤️ I'm sharing just the Coda of the 3rd movement. The piece is El Puerto, by Isaac Albéniz, from his Suite Iberia, and I performed it at the @festivalsantpere Festival de Música de Sant Pere de Rodes in Spain. Hi friends, I’m very happy to share that I have been awarded a Merit Award for my Two Hispanic Dances at the 2022 Tribeca New Music Young Composer Competition, in New York. This photo is by María Díez, and it’s a picture of the concert where the Two Dances were premiered, which took place at the Eutherpe Foundation in León, Spain, on December 2020, with the violinist Xavi García. 🙂@tribeca_new_music @tribecanewmusic

Hola amigos, con ilusión comparto que he sido galardonado con un Merit Award por mi obra Dos Danzas Hispanas, en el 2022 Tribeca New Music Young Composer Competition. La foto es de María Díez, y es del concierto del estreno de la obra, que tuvo lugar en la Sala Eutherpe de León, España, en Diciembre de 2020, con el violinista Xavi García. 🙂

It’s been a pleasure to talk today with Luz Orihuela at her program Andante con Moto in National Spanish Radio! Among other things, we talked about my Sonata for Viola and Piano, and we listened to the recording of the premiere last month in New York performed by violist Jorge Huelga and myself at the piano.
